STATUS EPILEPTICUS
Status epilepticus is a medical and neurologic emergency that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.
Defined as continuous or rapid sequential seizure activity without recovery between attacks, or more strictly, con- tinuous seizure lasting at least 30 minutes, this condition affects both children and adults with an estimated annual incidence of 12.6 per 100,000 worldwide.228 Although all types of seizures may present status epilepticus, there are two main classifications: convulsive (typically general- ized tonic-clonic activity) and nonconvulsive.
